Did you know that doing affirmations daily – with young children in particular – can have a very powerful impact on their confidence levels. I have been doing them with my children since they were three and the impact is amazing. Here’s how I work it.
In the morning I ask each of the kids “Tell me three great things about being you” and I ask them to start with “I am……or I can” rather than “I have”. In the beginning I give them examples : I love being me – I am proud of me – I am special – I am here to make a difference – I am kind – I always try to do my best – etc. They then chose their favourite 3 and say them out loud.
Before long they come up with the ones the like best or with their own versions.
Sometimes it is useful when they are nervous or fearful of something they have to do – like e.g. read in front of a group of people. I will encourage them to say “I am confident” or “I love to read to others” for a few days before the event – and you know it really does help!
Affirmations have been such a help to my kids that it has now become a central part of my Magical Me game. Try it with your kids and let me know how you find it?

7 Reasons To Teach Positive Psychology to Children – The Basis For Magical Me:

We thought it was time we gave you all some more information which shows why our programme will be sooooo good!

1. Teaching kids control over their thoughts, feelings and behaviours will result in happier more successful children and adults.

2. Happier children are healthier mentally and physically and do better in school.

3. Up to 42% of the ‘equation for happiness’ includes all aspects of your life you have control over especially your thoughts and actions. – how you choose to think about and act on the past, present and future.

4. Helping children develop strategies to increase their positive thoughts and instil optimism can prevent them from struggling with various problems such as anxiety and depression.

5. Increasing the daily diet of positive emotions results in improved relationships and closer connections with others.
6. The years of 4-8yrs is an important stage in the development of the brain. At this age the brain is still growing. Intervening while the brain is still growing is more effective than waiting until it is fully developed.

7. Kindness is good for your health – positive states of kindness, compassion and gratitude can have a dramatic impact on health and wellbeing.

Have you ever had a dream – which seems soooo unrealisitic – soooo huge that you just can’t see how you could possibly make it happen? Well that’s how ‘Magical Me’ has been for me. How can I possibly develop a game that will help children build self- esteem, confidence and an overwhelming sense of optimism …what do I know about any of this …and anyway ,where would I start? But start I have and the journey so far has been amazing – scary, stressful, tiring and sometimes hopeless …but nevertheless amazing ..

Two things have inspired this project for me –

1.	My passion for teaching positive psychology to young children and
2.	My 2 boys constantly ‘pestering’ me to buy games – which for me have no overt learning attached

Positive psychology is a fairly new branch of Psychology which has emerged out of studying what it is that makes people happy. Very simple techniques have been developed and all the research points to the need to, and real power of teaching these techniques to young children. But little is actually done…. Magical Me is my attempt at that. Why?..Because I want to play my small part in helping our beautiful children hold onto the knowledge they were born with but all too quickly forget as they enter into society …that they are amazing, perfect complete beings who have unlimited potential.

I spend a lot of time trying to limit the amount of games I allow my boys to play and the length of time I want them to play them – because to me they are not learning anything significant as part of the play.

Then it struck me .. children love playing games.. they are totally engaged and immersed in the process…why not build a game whose primary purpose it is to teach positive psychology to young children but is sufficiently challenging and playful – making the learning experience fun – hence Magical Me …..as a concept…… was born!

Magical Minds Ltd is a Company committed to the development of digital media products which teach children powerful and essential skills to help them engage in their world in a positive and powerful way long term.

Our first product Magical Me, aimed at 5 -7 year olds, will teach the basic principles underlying Positive Psychology in a fun and engaging way. There is a wealth of research which supports the value of teaching these principles at an early age

Children will learn how to recognise and name feelings. They will gain an understanding of the link between thoughts and feelings and how thoughts through feelings dictate how you react to a situation and ultimately impact the outcome of a situation.

Ultimately children start to learn that they get to choose how they feel about and react to a situation and that in choosing to react in a particular way they have control on the outcome.

This programme aims to lay the foundations of developing resilience, empowerment, confidence and taking responsibility – in a very positive way.

To support this learning, further products will be developed age appropriately to support the child to early adulthood.

We are excited about the development of these novel programmes and we are confident that parents and children will enjoy them in equal measure.
